Texas Tech football: 5 2019 commits new coach must hang on to
WR La’Vonte Shenault
Texas Tech always seems to have plenty of firepower at the receiver positions. The top-rated receiver committed to the Red Raiders in 2019 is three-star prospect La’Vonte Shenault from DeSoto, Texas.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound speedster is the No. 88 player in Texas and a top-100 wide receiver in the nation. His bother, Leviska Shenault Jr. had a breakout season for Colorado this year catching 86 passes for 1,011 yards and five scores in his sophomore season.

That has made some wonder if Boulder could a possible landing spot for the younger Shenault but like Texas Tech, Colorado is in the midst of a coaching change. Regardless of family ties, Shenault is a player that Tech needs to keep away from Colorado and any other program.
This season, he had 72 receptions for 937 yards and seven touchdowns. For his career, he caught 136 balls for 1807 yards and 36 touchdowns proving that he is the type of big-play receiver that this offense needs.
Leading receiver Antoine Wesley could potentially leave this offseason for the NFL but even if he returns to school, he will have only one season remaining. Tech also will lose inside receiver Seth Collins after next year meaning there will be opportunities for young receivers to play.
Shenault is the type of player that has made the “Air Raid” offense so dangerous for the last two decades. Tech needs to continue to bring in players of this caliber to ensure that it can keep putting up enough points to compete in the Big 12 moving forward.
