Atlanta Falcons

One of the most disappointing offenses in the NFL this year has been the Atlanta Falcons.  Despite having Matt Ryan at quarterback and arguably the best trio of receivers in the NFC in Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu, Atlanta is averaging just 25.5 points per game (11th in the league).

Falcons’ offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian began the season on the hot seat and has not done much to improve that situation thus far.  At times, the Atlanta offense has been frustratingly uncreative, especially in the red zone where it is scoring touchdowns only 64.7% of the time (11th in the league) despite having an unstoppable weapon like Jones at receiver.

The Falcons are just 4-7 on the year and look like a long shot to make the playoffs which could cost head coach Dan Quinn his job.  However, it appears that Quinn has the support of owner Arthur Blank so this could be another case of a head coach cleaning house in the offseason in an attempt to save his own skin.

Kingsbury’s imaginative offensive approach could be just what the Falcons need.  Since having the second-ranked offense in 2016 when they lost the Super Bowl to New England, the Falcons have been a team that has failed to regain their once-dominant offensive identity.

Kingsbury knows how to get talented wide receivers like Jones the ball and his ingenuity might help breathe life back into Matt Ryan as he winds down what has been a very good NFL career.  Playing in the NFC South with teams like the Saints, Panthers and Buccaneers is about as close as you can get to the NFL version of the Big 12 and Atlanta must be able to score more points in order to keep pave.   Kingsbury would be right at home in that division if he were to join the falcons.
