OL – Aaron Castro

Another key walk-on that helps supplement Texas Tech’s offensive line depth is Hutto, TX guard Aaron Castro.  The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder is a two-star recruit and teammate of Chux Nwabuko.

He has played every position along the offensive line during his high school career which makes him especially valuable, particularly on the scout team.  But don’t overlook his potential to be an eventual part of the two-deep on the depth chart.

The three-year starter was named a first-team All-State 5-A honoree after not allowing a sack in 2018.  He was credited with 43 pancake blocks by his coaching staff and he helped pave the way for an offense that racked up over 50 points and 500 yards of offense per game.

Tech appears to be set on the interior of the offensive line for the foreseeable future.  Senior Madison Akamnonu and three-year starter Jack Anderson are slated to start a the guard spots this year and 4-star 2018 signee Demarcus Marshal is one of the most physically dominant players Tech has ever landed and could be a factor this year as a redshirt freshman.

Still, it is always wise to continue to add quality options along the offensive line where Texas Tech has struggled with defections, suspensions and injuries in recent seasons.  Don’t be surprised to see Castro eventually be a player that the Red Raiders count on to be a cog in the interior of the offensive front where depth seems to be an annual concern.
