March 4, 2009: Texas Tech 84 – Kansas 65

The biggest blowout of the Jayhawks in Texas Tech history was also the most improbable.  In the final home game of the season, the 12-17 Red Raiders managed somehow to obliterate the No. 9 Jayhawks.

Senior Alan Voskuil had a career-high 35 points in his final game in Lubbock.  He drilled 10 of 17 shots including nine 3-pointers as one of three Red Raiders in double-digits.

KU entered the game at 13-1 in Big 12 play and riding a five-game winning streak but would never lead.  They did draw to within two points early in the second half at 43-41 but Voskuil was not going to let this game get away.

The 3-point line told the story in this upset.  Tech was a scalding 15-27 (55.6%) while Kansas went just 4-24 (16.7%) from behind the arc.

It was the third time in four games that Tech was able to upset KU in Lubbock (remember that back then the two teams met only once per season).  But unfortunately, it was the last time Tech was able to beat the Jayhawks in front of the home faithful.  Here’s hoping that changes Saturday.
