Davide Moretti’s clutch 3 against Gonzaga

Davide Moretti is starting to show that he has a flare for the dramatic.  And never was that more evident than in the final minutes of the Red Raiders’ Elite 8 win over Gonzaga.

Up just 63-60 with 1:47 to play, Moretti drilled a 3-pointer over the outstretched arms of a defender the shot clock ticked down.  It was that that moment that the game truly felt like it had shifted in the Red Raiders’ favor.

All season, Moretti has been a player that Tech has relied on at the end of close games.  That was never more important than the night he made all nine of his free throw attempts in the final five minutes of regulation and in overtime in Tech’s 84-80 win over Oklahoma State in Lubbock.

Now, he is proving to be a clutch late-game shooter from outside. That will be key in the Final Four as teams are likely to continue to throw extra help at Culver, as was the case in this play against the Zags.

Moretti must have a hot hand in Minneapolis as well.  He has to be able to be able to punish team’s that play off of Culver by drilling big shots like he did to get the Red Raiders to the Final Four for the first time ever.
