Texas Tech basketball: Brandone Francis’ 5 best games as a Red Raider
12 points vs. Texas in 2019
Sometimes sports transcend what happens between the lines. And that was certainly the case on senior night in 2019 when Brandon Francis and his mom provided Texas Tech fans with one of the year’s best moments.
Having not seen each other for two years, mother and son were reunited prior to Tech’s regular season home finale against Texas. It marked the first time that Kenia Ramirez would get to see her son play basketball in person since he left home for the United States as high schooler.
And fittingly, Francis played well with his mother in the building to cheer him on. Helping the Red Raiders sweep the Longhorns, Francis scored 12 points to go along with four rebounds in 29 minutes of action.
Shooting 4-9 from the field, Francis scored in double-digits for the only time between February 9th’s game at Oklahoma to the National Title game on April 9th; a span of 13 games.
All of his points coming in the final twelve minutes of the game, Francis punctuated his night with a breakaway layup to help his team maintain a double-digit lead in front of a raucous crowd that took particular delight in the dismantling of the Longhorns.
Given all that Francis had been through in his career and how he had matured as a person while in Lubbock, it was fitting for his mother to be on hand to witness her son’s transformation first hand. And on the night when Lubbock fans got to bid farewell to a player who had maybe the longest journey to manhood of any player in recent memory, we still got a beautiful glimpse of Brandone Francis the little boy as he collapsed into the arms of his mother during a reunion far too long in the making.
