17 points  vs. West Virginia in 2018

If there is one team in the Big 12 happy to see Brandone Francis graduate, it would have to be West Virginia.  That’s because both times they came to Lubbock when Francis was with the Red Raiders, he burned them in a big way.

In January of 2018, when the No. 2 Mountaineers came to the South Plains to take on the No. 8 Red Raiders, Francis set a career-high with 17 points in a 72-71 win.  It was one of only four double-digit games of his junior year.

Shooting 5-6 from the floor and 3-4 from deep, Francis was Tech’s second-leading scorer behind Keenan Evans and his 20 points. Surprisingly, they were the only two Red Raiders with more than nine points.

With Tech trailing by eleven points with just twelve minutes to play, Francis helped lead his team’s comeback with eight points down the stretch.  That included a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 49-48 with 9:50 to play and a jumper to put Tech up for the first time in the second half at 56-55.   And with the game tied at 60, Francis nailed his final (and biggest) bucket of the night to give his team the lead with 3:55 to play.

Aside from setting a career-high in points, he also established a career-high in 3-pointers in a game.  Additionally, he was 4-4 from the line while grabbing two rebounds and dishing out an assist.

This top-10 showdown proved to be Tech’s only win in a four-game span that proceeded an 8- game winning streak.  And as was his custom, Francis came up big against a marquee opponent as the Red Raiders took down the No. 2 team in the nation.
