SS – Josh Jung

While Kurt Wilson was the most surprising hero of the weekend, Texas Tech’s best payer Josh Jung, did exactly what Red Raider fans have come to expect from him.  Going 5-13 (.385) at the plate, the All-American hit three solo homers against the Cowboys including two on Sunday.

With three total RBI in the series Jung led his team, which received production from throughout the lineup.  His first homer in game three put Tech up 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth and his second started the 4-run eighth-inning rally as it cut the OSU lead to 6-5.

This was a more typical performance from the No. 8 overall pick in the MLB Draft than we saw in the regional round of the tournament.  Against Army and Dallas Baptist, Jung did not drive in a single run.

In his final home series as a Red Raider, he became the first player in program history to hit two homers in a postseason game.  And Tech needed everything it got from its cleanup hitter because the Big 12’s biggest bat was virtually non-existent in the Super Regional.

Conference RBI leader Cam Warren went just 1-11 (.091) with no RBI.  The first baseman was a victim of some poor luck early as he hit a number of balls right at defenders in the first two games of the series.

His only hit of the weekend was sixth-inning single, which was quite the departure from what he did in the regional round.  Warren hit a homer in all three games of the Lubbock Regional driving in eight runs including all three of Tech’s runs in their 3-0 win over Dallas Baptist to clinch a trip to the Supers.

But with Warren held in check, it was Jung who stepped up.  Though he did not have as prolific of a series as Warren did in the regional, Jung was able to display the type of power at the pate that some MLB scouts had wondered if he possessed.  And in doing so, he was able to be the offensive leader for his team as they took down a tough OSU team.
