Texas Tech basketball: Jarrett Culver’s five best games as a Red Raider
26 points, 6 rebounds vs. Nebraska in 2018
Entering the 2018-19 season, we had plenty of questions about the Red Raiders in the wake of their Elite 8 run in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. One of those questions was whether Culver was capable of being a consistent alpha male for a contending team.
He answered that question emphatically with his showing in the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City. After scoring 18 points to help Tech open the event with a win over USC, Culver had a dominant showing against Nebraska in the championship game with 26 points and 6 rebounds.
Shooting 9-18 from the field and 3-4 from deep, Culver did most of his damage after the intermission with 20 points. His corner three with about eight minutes to go essentially sealed the game putting Tech up 54-42.
Culver earned MVP honors for the event and showed a national audience that he was a bonafide star. His team also showed the country that they were more than capable of being a factor once again on the national scene.
This performance was the first of the season in which Culver was asked to dominate a game down the stretch and he did just that. It was an important step in his evolution from role player to superstar and answered any questions about whether the Red Raiders were capable of being contenders once again.
