Florida

One SEC team that the Red Raiders have seen on the court recently is Florida, which lost to Tech in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in Dallas.  But if the Gators thought that the Red Raider fan base raised hell that night at the American Airlines Center, they should see what the welcome would be like if they were sent to Lubbock in January.

The Gators are no stranger to high-profile games and playing in difficult road environments.  But the hornets nest that Lubbock would be with Florida in town would rival any road atmosphere the UF players would have ever seen.

All-time. the Gators hold a 2-1 edge over the Red Raiders with wins in Gainesville in1960 and Lubbock in 1962.  Maybe this year, it will be time for UF to return to the South Plains.

This too would be a thrilling showdown of teams expected to be in the top 15 to begin the upcoming season.  Just this week, Florida picked up a huge commitment from Virginia Tech grad transfer big man Kerry Blackshear who put up14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds last year. As a result, the Gators find themselves in the CBS Sports top-10 right now.

In the Big 12/SEC Challenge, Florida is 4-2 all-time.  They have wins over Kansas (2013), West Virginia (2016), Oklahoma (2017) and Baylor (2018) while suffering losses to Kansas (2014) and TCU (2019).

This year, the Gators were in Lubbock for the Lubbock Regional in the NCAA Baseball Tournament but they never faced off with the Red Raiders.  Maybe we will get to see these two schools meet once again on the basketball court in Lubbock in the Big 12/SEC Challenge in January.
