WR Loic Fouonji – Midland, TX

Over the years, some of the program’s best wide receivers have come from West Texas.  Players such as Dave Parks, Lloyd Hill, Throne Thurman, and Donnie Hart have all become stars, and in Parks’ case a college football Hall of Famer, while playing for their local university.

Maybe the next in the long line of West Texas pass-catchers to put up ridiculous numbers in Lubbock will be MIdland’s Loic Fouonji, a 2020 prospect.  The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Lee High School product is rated a 3-star player by 247Sports but most believe that he will eventually be elevated to 4-star status.

Last year, he caught 51 passes for 903 yards and 13 touchdowns. He enters this year with plenty of hype as a second-team member of the Whataburger Preseason Texas Super Team.

Currently, he holds offers from Oklahoma State, Baylor, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Tech, and Texas A&M.  In other words, if Tech doesn’t bring him into the fold, he is very likely to end up playing for a bitter rival.

Tech has already landed two 2020 receivers, both of whom are excellent prospects.  Ja’Lynn Polk, a 3-star receiver from Lufkin is Tech’s highest-rated commit thus far and J.J. Sparkman from Longview is a top-120 player in Texas.

Adding Fouonji to that duo would give Tech one of the best wide receiver classes in recent memory.  Especially when you add 3-star Cedar Hill athlete Quin Bright, who will play inside receiver at Tech, to that mix.

According to 247Sports, Fouonji has taken official visits to Oklahoma State and SMU thus far but he is yet to officially visit Tech.  But being just a couple hours down the road, it will be easy for him to come and see what the Red Raiders have to offer.  Hopefully, that will be enough to land a receiver who is ranked in the top-75 of all prospects in Texas.
