Texas Tech football: All-time Houston area Red Raider team
LB: Dakota Allen, Jordyn Brooks, Lawrence Flugence
If the defensive line is the biggest weakness for the H-town roster, the linebackers that they could roll out might be the team’s strength. That’s because this team would have Dakota Allen, Jordyn Brooks, and Lawrence Flugence, three of the best Red Raider LBs of the modern era.
Allen just wrapped up his time in Lubbock with 249 tackles despite spending 2016 at East Mississippi Community College. He averaged 83 career tackles in his career and had he been in Lubbock for his sophomore season and hit that mark, he would have finished No. 10 on the program’s all-time list with 332.
Speaking of the all-time tackles list, current senior Jordyn Brooks could find his way onto that list after this year if he comes up with 77 stops. Given that he has surpassed that mark in each of his three seasons thus far, it seems likely that he will eventually be among the all-time Red Raider tacklers so long as he remains healthy.
Brooks will be looking to join a top-10 list that is topped by Flugence who made 500 career tackles from 1999-2002. As a senior, he had an NCAA record 193 tackles and two of his other seasons (2000-01) rank in the top-10 in program history.
Though all three of these players are prototypical middle linebackers, Brooks and Allen could play outside linebacker with Flugence patrolling the middle. This would give the Houston-area squad an unbelievable trio in the middle of the defense.
