DB: Marcus Coleman, Darcel McBath, Dane Johnson, Jah’Shawn Johnson

Finally, we come to the all-time DFW Texas Tech secondary.  This group is comprised of rangy productive players.

Let’s start with Marcus Coleman who went to Lake Highlands High School.  Starting 36-straight games as a Red Raider from 1992-95, he set a SWC record with four interception returns for a touchdown.  For his career, he had 256 tackles, 9 interceptions and 6 blocked kicks.  In 1995, he was named a first-team All-American and he remains one of the top defensive backs in school history.

From Southlake came Dane Johnson, an incredibly productive safety who was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 1997.  What’s more, he was a dangerous return man who took four punts and a kickoff to the endzone.

Darcel McBath from Gainesville ended his career (2005-08) with 224 tackles and 12 interceptions which is tied for fifth-most in program history.  He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2008 when he picked off seven passes.

Finally, Ennis product Jah’Shawn Johnson rounds out this group.  With 312 tackles, six interceptions, and five fumble recoveries, he was a leader of the Red Raider defense as a 4-year starter from 2015-18.

The only two DFW defensive backs on the 2019 roster are sophomore John Davis Jr. from Euless and walk-on freshman Devyn Butler from Allen.

The problem with this group is that Coleman is the only one who played corner at Tech.  However, Johnson could likely slide down to play the other corner well enough to give this roster an excellent secondary.
