Texas Tech football: Three Oklahoma offensive weapons to know
WR Charleston Rambo
One of the greatest names in the nation this year belongs to OU’s sophomore WR Charleston Rambo whose name suggests he could deliver the Ten Commandments from Mt. Sinai and then turn around and destroy a small village with the use of his fists and a bazooka.
The Cedar Hill native is having a breakout season thus far as teams try to roll coverage towards Lamb. His eleven receptions, 251 yards, and four touchdown receptions all lead the team and already surpass what he accomplished as a redshirt freshman.
Rambo has had at least one touchdown in all three games this year and put up 100-yard days against both Houston and UCLA. In those two games, he averaged a video game-like 29.1 yards per catch.
At 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Rambo isn’t a physically dominant receiver. Instead, speed is his best attribute. However, he can be tough to bring down so Tech will need to swarm him to prevent yards after the catch.
An emerging route runner, he’s more than just a deep threat. OU will try to get him the ball in space in a variety of ways but where he seems to make a killing is on slants or posts where he catches the ball in stride.
Tech will need to be as physical as possible with this young star who has seen mostly soft coverage as teams have feared his speed. Though pressing him is risky, disrupting his route at the line is likely the best way to keep him from running wild through the secondary.
