Right guard: Jack Anderson

The obvious choice for right guard is Jack Anderson, who started every game of 2017-18 and the first four of 2019 before an injury cost him the remainder of his season.  Still, he’s projected to be the next Red Raider offensive lineman to make his mark in the NFL as some even believe he could enter the 2020 draft if he chooses to.

Anderson was one of the four-star prospect success stories along the o-line this decade, one of the ones who lived up to his billing.  In fact, when he signed with Tech in 2017, the 4-star prospect was the second-highest rated signee to ever ink with the Red Raiders, a distinction that he still holds.

In 2018, he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as the Red Raiders ranked 3rd nationally in passing offense despite having to rely on three different starting quarterbacks. In 2017, he garnered freshman All-American honors after starting every game at guard making him the first freshman All-American for the program since 2013.

There really are no other viable candidates to consider at right guard.  That’s how dominant Anderson has been since he arrived.  This year, redshirt freshman Weston Wright played well in his place and he could move to left guard or one of the tackle positions next year as Tech will be looking to fill at least three starting spots on the line.

Hopefully, the Red Raiders don’t have to look for a fourth new starter because Anderson decides to head to the NFL.  If he doesn’t, he could also be a potential member of the 2020’s all-decade team like Deaton, because if he chooses, he could use this past season as a redshirt and still have two more years as a Red Raider.  But seeing him still in scarlet and black in 2021 doesn’t seem likely given how highly-valued he is by people at the next level.
