Strong safety: Cody Davis

From Stephenville, Texas, the Red Raiders recruited one of the best tacklers in the modern era of the program, Cody Davis.  Recording at least 80 tackles in all four of his seasons (2009-12), the 4-year starter sits at No. 8 in program history with 362 career tackles.  As a senior, he had a career-high 101 stops including 84 that were of the solo variety earning him second-team all-conference honors for the second-straight year.

At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and running a 4.4 40-yard dash, Davis had the size to be an excellent run defender in the box while also being fast enough to cover receivers downfield. With four career interceptions and 14.5 tackles for loss, he was one of the most disruptive safeties in the last two decades of Tech football.

Signing with Tech in 2008, the 3-star player was just the nation’s No. 83 safety according to 247Sports.  He picked Tech over offers from Baylor, Duke, Oklahoma State, Houston, and others.

After his career at Tech, he went on to a successful NFL career.  Playing for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars, he’s made 75 career tackles and picked off two passes since 2013 making him one of the more successful Red Raider defensive backs at the next level in quite some time.
