Jahmi’us Ramsey had his second-straight great game against a major conference opponent

Prior to Tuesday’s game, our Nick Tattersfield shared his thoughts that in order for Red Raider true freshman Jahmi’us Ramsey to become a true superstar, he has to prove capable of being as good against major conference opponents as he had been against teams from lesser leagues.

It was a fair observation because prior to the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma State, we had yet to see the Red Raiders’ leading scorer play a complete game against a major conference opponent.  He saw action for half of Tech’s loss to Iowa on Thanksgiving night before a hamstring injury forced him to miss most of the second half and the next four games, three of which came against Creighton, DePaul, and Louisville.

But thanks to two fantastic games to being his Big 12 career, we now know Ramsey is more than ready to face the toughest of competition.  We also know that he is this team’s best scorer, which is something important to know for sure as the season progresses and games come down to the final possessions.

Averaging 19 points per game in his last two outings, Ramsey is fourth in Big 12 play in terms of scoring.  What’s more, in conference games he’s shooting 52.9% from behind the arc which is good for third-best in the conference after two games of league play.

With 20 points against Baylor, Ramsey essentially single-handedly kept his team in the game.  And don’t underestimate how good Baylor is defensively, especially at the wing positions.

Though his huge night came in a losing effort, Jahmi’us Ramsey proved against Baylor that he can be a star against even a top 5 team.  Thus, he will head into Morgantown on Saturday with a ton of confidence as he continues to show that the hype that surrounded him when he signed with Tech was valid.
