Texas Tech basketball: Players that need to lead the way against TCU
Jahmi’us Ramsey
Tech’s leading scorer has hit his first pedestrian patch of the season. He hasn’t been awful in his last three games but he’s not looked like the same player that we saw prior.
His 10 points at Kansas State a week ago are his most since he had 20 against Baylor. Since then, he’s averaging just 8.3 points per game.
What’s more, scoring in single digits against both West Virginia and Iowa State, he’s doubled the number of single-digit games he had all year prior to this downturn. Tonight needs to be a better night for the freshman.
Kyler Edwards has picked up the slack in the last two games by averaging 23 points per game. That earned him Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
But at some point, the sophomore is going to come back to Earth. Though he is better than he showed prior to this two-game outburst, he is not a 20-point-per-game scorer.
Realistically, Edwards and Ramsey could both average around 15 points per game and Tech would be fine. In fact, it might make the Red Raiders even tougher to guard, especially with Davide Moretti heating up (15.6 p.p.g. in his last three) as well.
Ramsey needs to relocate his outside shot. He’s hit just two of his last 13 attempts. If he can get back to being the 46% shooter that he was to begin the year, or something close to that, he will give Tech three deadly options now that Edwards has found his stroke from deep. Once that happens, this offense could really take off and Tech might need that tonight if TCU shoots it well from deep at home.
