Jahmi’us Ramsey must be an efficient and versatile scorer

Another Red Raider who is finding it tougher to score as Big 12 teams game plan for him is freshman Jahmi’us Ramsey.  But though his 15 point-game against TCU was a bit misleading in that it wasn’t necessarily efficient nor was it as impactful as Tech needed it to be given that most of his points came after the game was out of hand, here’s hoping that it got him going and restored some of his confidence after three-straight sub-par performances.

Versatility is what Ramsey needs to show today.  It won’t be enough if he is simply a spot-up 3-point shooter, which he’s been at times this year.

That’s a problem because he hasn’t hit more than one 3-pointer in a game since he made five against Baylor.  In fact, he’s made just 3-19 in that span.

Rather, Tech needs him to attack off the dribble and get to the line because if he does, he might saddle the two Kentucky big men with some fouls.  Thus far, Ramsey has not always shown a willingness to attack the bucket when there have been rim protectors waiting for him.

He hasn’t had more than two free-throw attempts in a game since he had six against Cal-Bakersfield in the final game of 2019.  It would be encouraging to see that change today.

Ramsey has aspirations of being an NBA player, perhaps as soon as next season.  If that’s going to happen, he has to show more of an all-around game and what better way to showcase his ability than by playing his best game of the year in the most high-profile game of the day, one that is on national TV.  If he does, the Red Raiders could have an edge in this big-time contest.
