Texas Tech basketball: Numbers to know as Tech heads to Stillwater
OSU center Yor Anei played only 13 minutes in Lubbock
We focus quite a bit on the two Oklahoma State outside shooters but the wildcard for Mike Boynton’s team is 6-foot-10 sophomore Yor Anei. The Kansas native averages 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game and can be a real problem on the defensive end as his athleticism and length allow him to block two shots per game on average.

But the first time these teams squared off, Anei was on the floor only 13 minutes because of foul trouble. Fouling out in that game, he finished with just three points, one rebound, and one blocked shot.
We must not overlook how important he is to what OSU wants to do. In the only two wins the Cowboys have in Big 12 play this year, he’s played an average of 28.5 minutes averaging 14.5 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
Additionally, he’s put up 11 games of ten or more points. OSU has won every one of those contests.
Fortunately, Tech has started to figure out how to neutralize opposing big men in recent weeks. That includes 6-foot-11 Kevin Samuel of TCU, who had just four points in Monday’s loss to the Red Raiders after scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 boards the first time he saw Tech this season.
Tech needs to attack Anei early and often and make him pick up some early fouls. That was a key in the first game of the year against the Pokes and if it happens again today, Tech will be in great shape.
