DE E’Maurion Banks

In the 3-3-5 defensive scheme of Keith Patterson, defensive ends need to be large enough to hold up against the run while playing over the guard rather than lining up outside the tackle as they do in a four-man defensive line.  That’s what E’Maurion Banks out of Wichita Falls is built to do.

Already at 6-foot-4, 260-pounds, the 3-star prospect is the size of many college defensive ends.  He’s the No. 37 player in America at his position and the No. 70 player in Texas.

Such schools as Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas have already extended offers.  But he was in Lubbock last month for junior day so there’s obviously some traction already built up in Tech’s favor.

Last year, he racked up an impressive 95 tackles (20 for loss) and 14 sacks.  Tragically, he lost his father last fall and one has to wonder if that will motivate him to stay closer to home.

Banks camped with the Aggies last summer and has hosted OU head coach Lincoln Riley for an in-home visit.  Again, everyone wants a big pass rusher.  However, his first offer came from the Red Raiders back in April and maybe that length courtship will play a significant role for Matt Wells and his program.
