Players returning from injury can’t be with team trainers and also lose important practice time

We’ve also recently discussed how many important Red Raiders are returning from injury this year.  Now, the rehabilitation and reintegration of those players is being put on hold.

Such players as QBs Alan Bowman and Maverick McIvor, receivers Xavier White and Seth Collins, DE Gilbert Ibeneme, OL Jack Anderson, and DL John Scott III are all expected to either start or compete for spots in the two-deep a year after missing most or all of the 2019 season.  For those Red Raiders, a spring’s worth of practice and scrimmage repetitions would have been invaluable as they work off the rust from their extended absences.

There are also players who are currently dealing with nagging injuries such as Randle and Scott, both of whom need to be with the Texas Tech trainers as frequently as possible.  Randle was limited in the four spring practices that were held thanks to a shoulder injury which makes any extra practice time he gets so crucial for his development.  Scott, meanwhile, is continuing his recovery from a gunshot wound that cost him all of last year.

The previous two years have been wrought with injuries leaving this roster short-handed during the season and scrambling to recover in the offseason.  Now, those players that are working their way back from injury are facing a tough situation as they have their opportunities for practice reps cut short and their continued rehab potentially interrupted.
