vs. KSU 18 pts, 4 assists, two rebounds, two steals

When Kansas State came to Lubbock, the last-place Wildcats nearly stunned Tech at the U.S.A.  In fact, had KSU guard Cartier Diarra not blown a breakaway dunk that could have tied the game in the second half, Tech might have gone down in defeat.

But Diarra unsuccessfully tried a windmill dunk and on the other end of the court, Moretti drained a 3-pointer to give his team some breathing room and all of the momentum on the way to a 69-62 win.  While Diarra was the real MVP for Tech, Moretti was a close second that night.

With 18 points, four assists, two rebounds, and two steals, he had one of his best all-around games of the year.  Once again, he wasn’t all that efficient as he was just 5-12 from the floor and 4-10 from 3-point range but he came up big when needed.

All but three of his points that night came in the second half.  That was an important factor in helping Tech fend off a hard-charging Wildcat team that at one point had the Red Raiders on the ropes.

Much more efficient after the break, he was 3-6 from deep and 4-4 at the free-throw line in the final 20 minutes.  That included five points in the final two minutes to slam the door shut.

Meanwhile, his four assists were tied for his third-most in a season.  Again, on a night when his team struggled to score, he not only managed to lead the way on offense by both putting the ball in the bucket but by also helping get his teammates involved.  When he does that, he’s one of the best players in the Big 12.
