Wichita State transfer Jamarius Burton

One name to keep a very, very close eye on is Jamarius Burton from Wichita State.  Scheduled to be just a junior this upcoming season, he would have to either have a waiver approved or hope the proposed rule change to allow all players a one-time transfer without sitting out is approved this offseason.

Burton has said that he will announce his decision tomorrow (Monday, April 13).  It is believed he is down to Tech, Marquette, Xavier, and Seton Hall.

A sturdy, 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard, he averaged 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 2019-20.  He shot 38.1% from deep, an improvement of almost 12 points from his freshman season.

Not a true point guard but more of a combo guard who can play multiple roles, Burton is a rugged on-ball defender who can guard four spots on the court.  He would bring some upperclassmen toughness to the roster and his game is reminiscent of former Red Raider Toddrick Gotcher.

Extremely reliable, he put up between 10 and 18 points on 18 different occasions this past season.  However, he struggled against three Big 12 teams, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia, as he averaged just five points per game against those potential conference rivals.

We will find out soon if Burton is headed to Lubbock.  Should that be the case, he would bring a rugged element to the roster that would be reminiscent of the attitude the 2018-19 team embodied on the way to the National Title Game.
