No. 2: Henderson 2005

We round out our tribute to Taurean Henderson by taking a look at his best season.  As a senior, he amassed 1,400 total yards and 22 TDs to put an exclamation point on a legendary career.

With 67 catches, he finished his career with 303 to set an NCAA record for running backs.  That total also puts him atop Tech’s all-time list.

On the ground, he set career-highs with 872 yards and 17 TDs.  He averaged 5.9 yards per rush for the second time in his career.

But what puts this season over the top for Henderson is the fact that he scored 22 TDs.  His 17 TDs on the ground are tied for the third-most in Tech history in a single season.

Against Texas A&M, he put up 178 yards and three rushing TDs.  He also had 150 yards and two TDs against Baylor in Waco.

But also that year, he had one of the most puzzling games in Tech history.  How the best RB in the last 20 years of the program could run the ball eight times against Oklahoma State and total -6 yards will forever be a mind-bender.

But that didn’t stop Henderson from having one of the best seasons ever from a Texas Tech running back.  As for his career, he finished with 3,241 rushing yards to rank sixth in program history.  Meanwhile, his 69 total TDs are good for the most by a non-QB. There’s no question that he’s the best RB in the “Air Raid” era of the Texas Tech football program and he is in the discussion as being a top-3 RB to ever wear the Double T.
