2008

This should come as no shock but the 2008 Texas Tech football team went a perfect 7-0 at home.  It seems like every time we talk about the best this or that from Tech history, 2008 is going to find it’s way onto the list and that’s the case here.

This was the last time that the program went without a loss at home.  And what makes that unblemished mark so impressive is the fact that Mike Leach’s team faced top-10 teams in consecutive weeks that year.

Everyone remembers the November 1st classic against Texas in which Graham Harrell hit Michael Crabtree for the game-winning TD with just a second to play.  But some may not remember that the next week, the Red Raiders had to face No. 8 Oklahoma State in Lubbock.

However, that game was not nearly as dramatic.  After falling behind early, Tech stormed past the Cowboys for a 56-20 victory to stay at No. 2 in the national polls.

That season, blowouts at home were commonplace.  Of the seven wins Tech had at The Jones, four came by 20 or more points.

This was a schedule similar to the 2020 schedule in that three rivals came to the Jones, Texas, Nebraska, and Baylor.  But this year, Tech will be a decided underdog when the three rivals, Texas, OU, and Baylor come calling.  While it seems a stretch for us to hope that Tech will win all three of those games, winning at least two will potentially set Mat Wells’ team up for a solid overall season.
