No. 6: Lloyd Hill 1992

From a numbers perspective, Lloyd Hill‘s 1992 season is No. 6 on our list.  But in proper context, perhaps it should be higher.

That’s because he caught 76 passes for 1,261 yards and 12 TDs in a season in which Bam Morris ran the ball 242 times.  In total, Tech ran the ball 487 times and threw it just 380 times.  In other words, Tech was still a run-heavy team.

In fact, that season, the Red Raider QBs completed just 191 passes.  That means that just below 40% of those completions went to Hill.

His yardage was good for what was then a school single-season record and that total still ranks 7th in Texas Tech football history.  Also, his 12 TDs still rank tied for 8th in program history.

In the second game of the year, a 49-32 victory over Wyoming, Hill had 222 yards, which was the second-best game ever by a Red Raider at that point.  That performance is still good for 10th-best ever in Tech history.

Not surprisingly, Hill would earn first-team All-American and All-Southwest Conference honors that year, the latter of which was a feat he would repeat in 1993.  He is also the all-time leader in SWC history for receptions.  Lloyd truly was a legend in Lubbock.
