Most Overrated
Breiden Fehoko is not only the easy choice for the most overrated member of the 2015 Texas Tech football signing class, he’s got to be a prime candidate to be the most overrated recruit in Red Raider history. And this isn’t just sour grapes over the fact that he left the program for LSU following his sophomore year. The reality is that he just wasn’t a very good college football player.
The native of Honolulu, Hawaii was the bell cow of Tech’s 2015 class. When he signed, he was the No. 8 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 51 player regardless of position according to 247Sports. What’s more, he remains the highest-rated player to sign with Tech in the recruiting ranking era.
Thus, the fact that he finished his entire NCAA career, not just his time in Lubbock, with a mere 71 tackles is mind-blowing. Keep in mind that is not his total number of solo stops but his total when counting assisted tackles as well.
Furthermore, Fehoko managed just four sacks in four years of college football. And never did he have more than 1.5 in a single season.
Likewise, he never topped the 19 tackles that he registered in each of his two seasons in the Hub City. That’s right, a former 5-star DT was never able to make 20 tackles in a single season.
It wasn’t injuries that derailed him. He simply wasn’t worth the hype.
Breiden Fehoko will forever remain a cautionary tale about how impressive videos of weight-room exploits and offers from every top program in the nation don’t mean that a player is destined for stardom. And because he proved to be a flop, the Red Raiders have been trying to find legitimate help along the defensive line for the entirety of his college career. That’s something we all thought they had managed to do when he decided to come to Lubbock five years ago.
