Texas Tech basketball: The all-time Red Raider team from West Texas
Center: Andy Ellis
Another player that would be more widely recognized as one of the best Red Raiders ever had he played in a different era of the program is Lamesa’s Andy Ellis. In fact, the 6-foot-11 center was ahead of his time as a player who was more comfortable facing the basket than trying to get his points on the block.

For his career, he averaged 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game from 1998-2002. That included averaging over 16 points per game as a sophomore and senior.
In his career, he put up 15 double-doubles. He also earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior and honorable mention recognition the year before.
With 1,431 points, he sits at No. 18 on Tech’s all-time scoring list. What’s more, he also had two separate 14-game streaks in double digits while representing the Double T.
Ellis was also a sneaky good defender. His 1.72 blocks per game in Big 12 play as a senior are the sixth-most any Red Raider has ever had in Big 12 play. Additionally, his career average of 0.75 steals in 38 career Big 12 games is 15th-best in Red Raider history.
This is a roster that might surprise some people. Not known as a basketball hotbed, West Texas has produced some fantastic talent for the Texas Tech basketball program and that’s why this team would be able to hold it’s own against any of the other teams from other areas that we will look at in the upcoming days.
