Thompson will play despite arrest

Monday, Texas Tech sophomore running back SaRodorick Thompson was arrested in connection with a street racing incident from this past summer.  That left many wondering what his status for this weekend’s game was.

However, after the news broke, the university quickly came out and said that the Red Raiders’ leading rusher will not miss any game action and will be on the field against the Longhorns.  While that may not sit well with some fans who want Thomspon to be punished more severely, it is good news when it comes to Tech’s chances of hanging with the Longhorns.

With Thompson in the lineup, Tech has a much more balanced lineup and that will be helpful in keeping the UT defense honest on Saturday.  Against Houston Baptist, Tech ran the ball 43 times while passing it 38.  And 22 of those carries went to Thompson.

There’s no question that the Irving native is Tech’s workhorse.  He was who offensive coordinator David Yost turned to when the clock needed to be drained in week one and he might be Tech’s best shot at keeping the UT offense in check this weekend.

One has to believe that the ground game will feature heavily into the Red Raiders’ offensive game plan again this weekend as a means of protecting the suspect defense from being exposed against a high-powered UT offensive attack.  Thus, SaRodorick Thompson might be who the game plan revolves around.  If that’s indeed the case, the fact that he will be available is obviously great news.
