No. 9: Texas Tech

Texas Tech is the second of three winless teams in Big 12 play.  But unlike KU, the Red Raiders have been in their two league games so far.  In fact, they’ve had a 4th quarter lead in both.

What’s more, their two losses have come to a team that was ranked in the top 10 at the time they played (Texas) and one that is 2-0 in league play thus far (Kansas State).  That’s quite different than the 0-2 Big 12 record that Kansas has put forth.

The problem is that the Red Raiders continue to lose winnable Big 12 games.  They don’t seem to know how to win as talk of a “losing culture” has dominated the discussion around the fan base this week.

What’s frightening for Red Raider fans is the fact that the schedule doesn’t really let up in the upcoming weeks.  This week takes the Red Raiders to Ames to face Iowa State before back-to-back home games against West Virginia and Oklahoma.

Tech is also now having to deal with the yearly Alan Bowman injury, which won’t help matters as they may have to turn to backup Henry Colombi if Bowman’s ankle doesn’t heal quickly.  But on the other hand, Colombi did equip himself well in relief of Bowman last week at Kansas State.

If he is pressed into action for an extended period of time, it will be interesting to see how the offense evolves.  And whether or not Colombi can take over the reins successfully may be what determines the course of the rest of 2020 for the Red Raiders.
