RB Leddie  Brown is taking the Big 12 by storm

We all hoped that the 2020 running back who would be the Big 12’s breakout star would be our own SaRodorick Thompson.  However, it appears that West Virginia’s Leddie Brown has the inside track to earn that distinction.

The junior from Philadelphia, PA has already run for 515 yards and 5 TDs this year.  What’s more, he’s averaging 6.4 yards per carry.  On top of that, he’s second in the Big 12 in rushing yards at 128.8 per game.

At 5-foot-11, 210-pounds, he is a physical runner but he’s also capable of making the big play. In fact, last week against Kansas, he broke off an 87-yard TD run that proved to be the turning point in his team’s 38-17 win.  For the game, he finished with 195 yards on just 18 rushes.

Brown is essentially WVU’s only game-breaking weapon on offense.  He’s run for at least 100 yards in three of this year’s four games and he is the guy around whom everything head coach Neal Brown devises revolves.

In addition, he’s also fourth on the team in receptions with 12.  A weapon out of the backfield, he has 91 receiving yards and a pair of TDs through the air this season as well.

Facing a dominant running back should give Red Raider fans some trepidation.  After all, in every Big 12 game this year, the ground game has been a problem for Tech’s defense.

Texas ran for 214 yards and a pair of TDs in their comeback win in Lubbock.  A week later, Kansas State freshman Deuce Vaughn ran for 113 yards and a score as the Wildcats came within two yards of hitting the 200-yard mark on the ground in their win.  And the last time we saw the Red Raiders in action, Iowa State’s Breece Hall ran for 135 yards and a pair of scores ad ISU also racked up 214 yards on the ground against the Red Raiders.

This week will bring another huge test to Keith Patterson’s ground defense.  And if Tech can’t keep Leddie Brown in check, it will be yet another test that the Red Raider defense will fail.
