Texas Tech football: Red Raiders will beat West Virginia if…
…Colombi matches Doege
To win this game, Tech has to have better from the QB position than it has received in the last two games. That will mean that new starter Henry Colombi has to at least play equal to WVU starter Jarrett Doege.
Asking Colombi to match his counterpart today isn’t a monumental task. After all, Doege is just an average Big 12 QB.
He’s averaging only 260.5 yards passing per game and completing 64.2% of his passes while putting up a QB rating of 137.1. Those numbers are fine but far from spectacular.
Colombi has appeared in just two games this year and has yet to play a full contest. Essentially, he’s played what amounts to one entire game and the numbers he has put up are better than the average Doege game.
Completing 40 of 54 passes (74.1%), he’s thrown for 359 yards and three TDs with one pick. Meanwhile, his QB rating has been 144.5.
Today, if Colombi can match or even best Doege, Tech stands a great shot at winning. And it will be a welcome development as it’s been two games since the QB play for the Red Raiders has been good enough to give them a shot at being successful.
