Bad: Shannon goes down with an ankle injury

In the second half, Terrence Shannon Jr. rolled his ankle when he stepped on the foot of a Grambling player while running the court.  He didn’t return and now we have to worry whether he will be back to full health by the time conference play starts in just over a week.

Tech simply can’t go into the December 17th game against Kansas without both Shannon and Kevin McCullar Jr., the latter of whom has not played yet this year due to his own sprained ankle.  That’s now a real possibility.

Following the game, Beard did say that disaster was averted and that Shannon’s injury didn’t appear to be serious.  But anything that could take the sophomore out of the equation for any Big 12 action would be a huge blow.

At 11.2 points per game, he is second in scoring for the Red Raiders.  That makes him one of three players on the roster, joining McClung and Edwards, to be averaging double-digits on the scoreboard.

What’s more, at 4.2 rebounds, he’s second on the team to Marcus Santos-Silva and at 1.3 steals per game, he’s second to Nimari Burnett.  Thus, it is easy to see what he means to this team.

On Sunday, Shannon had a nice game before his injury.  With 12 points and two rebounds, he was helping cover for McClung’s off night.  However, now that it appears that he could miss some time after rolling his ankle, someone may have to step up and cover for him while he rehabilitates.
