Micah Peavy

Perhaps the biggest unsung hero from Saturday’s triumph was another true freshman, Micah Peavy.  But like Agbo, his stats from the game won’t jump off the page.

More from Wreck'Em Red

Playing 26:09, he scored a mere five points.  But when he was on the court, Tech was a +16, which was the greatest +/- of any Red Raider that played in the game.  In fact, no other player on the team was better than Mac McClung’s +7.

But it wasn’t all about the points for Peavy.  First of all, he grabbed five total rebounds.  That marked just the fourth time in Big 12 play that he has pulled down that many boards.

Most impressively though were his four assists.  That was one shy of a season-high and it was the most he’s had in conference play thus far.

With Kyler Edwards eventually fouling out, Peavy was forced to play critical minutes down the stretch and he came up big.  It was his second extremely solid performance against a quality team in the last two weeks as his growth continues to be evident.

When Tech faced Kansas on February 20, the Duncanville native had 10 points and five rebounds.  What’s more, in the game prior to that, he scored 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds as he’s proving that a step up in competition brings out his best.  And though his line from the latest win over the Longhorns won’t draw widespread praise from those who didn’t watch the game, those who did know that Peavy was a tremendous part of Tech’s win on Saturday.
