Chibuzo Agbo

Thanks to the jumps that Culver and Moretti made as sophomores, Tech fans keep looking for the next second-year sensation to take the Big 12 by storm.  Perhaps that will be Chibuzo Agbo Jr. next season.

It was a rather quiet true freshman season for the San Diego native in 2020-21.  He saw action in 22 games but played an average of just 6.4 minutes per appearance averaging a mere 2 points.  But he left us with an encouraging performance to chew on over the offseason.

With Tech struggling against Arkansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Agbo drained a pair of three-pointers to help spark a Red Raider rally (one that would ultimately fall just two points short).  That’s what Tech needs to see more of from Agbo in the upcoming season.

Known for having a picture-perfect jump shot, the 6-foot-7 forward isn’t afraid to pull the trigger from deep.  However, he was just a 32% shooter from beyond the arc this season.

But more than just being a better outside shooter, Agbo needs to figure out how to be a key member of the rotation next year by doing everything that a player of his pedigree should.  Remember, he was a 4-star prospect and the No. 27 small forward in America in the 2020 signing class.

Now, with Terrence Shannon almost certainly headed to the NBA this offseason, Tech will probably give Agbo every opportunity to earn more minutes at the small forward position.  If he seizes that opportunity and becomes a key contributor, it will be a great sign for his future as it will mean he’s started to figure out how to become a key component of a Big 12 team and that’s what this program certainly expects him to be.
