Texas Tech vs. Baylor

Talk about series that have been close in recent years, Baylor and Tech have played each other as close as any two programs can in the past three seasons with all three games decided by three points or less.  In 2022, Baylor will come into Lubbock and pick up another close win as McGuire fails to get one over on his former employer.

The preseason favorites to win the conference title, Baylor has turned the offense over to sophomore QB Blake Shapen.  That’s a bold move given that Gerry Bohanon did much of the heavy lifting last year to get the Bears to the Big 12 title game.

It was the running game that really carried BU last year though.  This year, they’ve got to replace a ton of talent at the RB spot but they return four starting offensive linemen.

On defense, head coach Dave Aranda will work his magic again.  He has the luxury of returning virtually his entire two-deep along the defensive line as well as a pair of starters in the secondary.

Baylor might be the best team in the Big 12 along both sides of the line of scrimmage and that’s why they will be able to handle the Red Raiders in Lubbock.  Their depth and experience, especially on the d-line, will be a key advantage over the Red Raiders.

McGuire is trying to do in Lubbock what he helped do in Waco and build a dominant program on both sides of the line of scrimmage.  He’s not there yet, especially on the offensive line and that will hurt him against the school that gave him his start in college football as his team falls to 4-4.
