Senior De’Vion Harmon

Speaking of Harmon, there’s plenty of excitement about his Red Raider debut as well.  But whereas Isaacs is still green, Harmon is a player who has been around the block several times and that could make him the perfect leader for this year’s squad.

Harmon may be familiar to some Texas Tech basketball fans.  That’s because he spent his first two seasons at Oklahoma where he averaged 9.8 points per game while making 45 starts in 56 appearances.

Last year, the Denton, Texas native transferred to Oregon where he put up 10.8 points and 2.1 assists per outing.  He also shot a career-best 36.7% from 3-point range.

The simple truth is that Tech hasn’t had a true point guard since Keenan Evans exhausted his eligibility after the 2017-18 season.  Since then, players like Davide Moretti, Matt Mooney, Mac McClung, and Kevin McCullar Jr. have tried to man that spot but none have been the type of true point guard that this program has needed. That’s one reason why the Red Raiders have struggled so mightily in games that have come down to the final possession or two.

Expect Harmon to be the player Tech turns to when games get tight.  After all, he’s been through the college basketball wars and he’s being counted on to quarterback this year’s Red Raiders.  Hopefully, his presence will give this program the one missing ingredient that has been so hard to find since Evans’ departure.
