Honorable Mention: Oct. 10, 2015 – Iowa State Cyclones vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

After getting off to an impressive 3-0 start in 2015, Texas Tech hit a wall and suffered two straight losses to Big 12 opponents. But the Red Raiders weren’t falling to 0-3 against conference opponents on Patrick Mahomes’ watch.

Mahomes went ballistic in this matchup, completing 71.7 percent of his passes for 428 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions. Texas Tech also picked up 33 first downs and was 11-for-15 on third-down conversions in this matchup. Perhaps most importantly, the Red Raiders scored touchdowns on nine of their 15 drives against Iowa State en route to a 66-point outburst.

No. 5: Nov. 14, 2015 – Kansas State Wildcats vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

This was a pivotal matchup for Texas Tech in 2015, as the Red Raiders were trying to snap a three-game losing streak and become bowl eligible. Knowing what was at stake in this contest, Patrick Mahomes delivered a high-caliber performance to help assure that Texas Tech would be playing football in December.

The Red Raiders scored on five of their first seven possessions and held a 35-14 advantage late in the first half. That lead gave Texas Tech the cushion it needed to secure a much-needed 59-44 win over Kansas State. Mahomes, who played turnover-free football against the Wildcats, completed 78.6 percent of his passes for 384 yards and scored four total touchdowns – three passing and one rushing.
