Anquan Willis could be a breakout freshman for Texas Tech

Tech has seen plenty of talent come out of Wichita Falls. T.J. Vasher was a success coming out of Rider and has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys before playing in the XFL. Now another Rider Raider is hoping he can follow in his footsteps. That kid is Anquan Willis, a four-star prospect by 247 Sports and three-star by Rivals.com. He chose the Red Raiders over other Texas schools such as SMU and TCU.

With SaRodorick Thompson now looking to make the Seattle Seahawks roster in the NFL, depth behind Tahj Brooks remains a question. Right now Cam’Ron Valdez is expected to back him up, but he dealt with injuries last season and was not fully healthy until the Kansas game. Bryson Donnell is most likely going to be third on the depth chart, but Willis should not be counted out.

While Willis is the same weight as Donnell at 220, at six feet he has a bit of a height advantage. Playing at 220 makes him more of a power back and those types of backs need to get in between the tackles and see the holes develop. Standing a bit taller than Donnell might give him an edge. If an injury occurs in the backfield, Willis should be considered a replacement.
