No. 12 Utah @ Baylor: Texas Tech fans would enjoy seeing the Bears blown out

If some Texas Tech fans are panicking about hosting No. 13 Oregon after losing to Wyoming, think about how Baylor fans feel this week.  After being stunned at home by Texas State last week, they now host No. 12 Utah, which dominated Florida in week one.

The Utes are an outside playoff contender and if they can run through the PAC-12 to win their third-straight conference title, they might be one of the four teams playing for it all in January.  Of course, they are expected to dominate the Bears in Waco this week.

Baylor will be giving Lubbock native Sawyer Robinson his first career start at QB due to an injury to QB1 Blake Shapen.  Facing a stingy Utah defense isn’t the best way to get your feet wet at the college level, though.

Utah will also be without their QB1, Cam Rising, who is practicing but is expected to miss his second game as he recovers from a torn knee ligament sustained in the Rose Bowl back in January. Still, the Utes did enough offensively last week to score 24 points on Florida in a 13-point win that was never really that close.

Will the Utah backup QBs have to do more against Baylor this week?  Likely.  The Bears should put up a few points at home, even against the very strong Utah defense.

However, no one thinks Baylor will pull off this upset. According to the ESPN matchup predictor, Utah has a 73.6% shot at prevailing.

Texas Tech fans want nothing but misery for Baylor football.  That’s what the Bears experienced at home in week one, something that Red Raider fans couldn’t quite enjoy to the fullest given Tech’s loss to Wyoming.

Hopefully, it will be Tech that rebounds well at home against a ranked PAC-12 team this week, not Baylor.  So Saturday morning, many in Lubbock might tune in to see what we hope will be a beating on the Brazos.
