The Texas Tech softball team is now on the brink of elimination. That’s not exactly the situation that Gerry Glasco and the Red Raiders want to be in, but it’s not like the Texas Tech softball team is all alone in that sort of circumstance.

There are just six teams left in Oklahoma City. A total of four of them are currently facing elimination. Eight arrived and we’ve already seen the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks sent home.

Today, on Day 4 of the Women’s College World Series, two more teams will head home. And that’s because the Tennessee Lady Volunteers ended up handing the Red Raiders a shocking extra inning defeat and the Alabama Crimson Tide managed to run right past the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Here’s what happened on Day 3 of the Women’s College World Series:

Tennessee stunned Texas Tech in extra innings, which stings and is far from ideal for the Red Raiders

This was very, very far from ideal for the Texas Tech softball team. The Red Raiders somehow totally struggled while at the plate. It’s something that Gerry Glasco has taken the blame for (which makes sense, he’s the head coach of the Red Raiders), but it’s worrying because we’ve got to see Texas Tech bounce back in a hurry.

In 30 at-bats, Texas Tech managed to scrape together just five hits. Which is bad. Very, very bad. The Red Raiders left eight runners on base, went just 1-for-5 at the plate with runners in scoring position, and managed to miss on prime opportunities. Now, Texas Tech gets the honor of playing the UCLA Bruins in an elimination game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide really made a statement against Nebraska

Nebraska is in a similar boat to what the Red Raiders are dealing with. Against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Huskers weren’t able to really do much of anything while at the plate. In 24 at-bats, Nebraska had just one hit. Just one. One run scored. They struck out six times in the process.

With the loss to Alabama, the Huskers will now get to meet up with the Texas Longhorns, which could be a very fun matchup for the Red Raiders and Texas Tech softball fans to keep an eye on.

With Day 4 here, Texas Tech, Texas, Nebraska, and UCLA are all just trying to stay alive in the Women’s College World Series. None of these teams can afford to lose. If they do, then they’re going back home. If they win, they then have to win two more games to stay alive. There’s no margin for error for this group.
