Well, with Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech softball team falling short against the likes of the Tennesse Lady Volunteers, the Red Raiders are now swapping which side of the 2026 Women’s College World Series bracket that they’re on.
And that means that Texas Tech, should the Red Raiders survive their encounter with the UCLA Bruins, will get a shot at the Alabama Crimson Tide instead of immediately getting a chance to play the Lady Volunteers again.
It’s also a reminder that Texas Tech won’t get an opportunity to meet up with the Texas Longhorns in the elimination game because they’re currently set to meet up with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
So, how did we get here?
The Crimson Tide made a statement in their meeting with the Huskers last night. In Saturday’s second game, Alabama took on the Nebraska softball team and shut the Huskers’ bats down while also racking up a handful of runs. Thus, a 5-1 win for the Crimson Tide over Nebraska.
If Texas Tech softball can survive meeting UCLA, the Red Raiders will get a shot at Alabama
The Crimson Tide were led by Jocelyn Briski in the circle, who went the complete game and dominated the entire way. Briski threw 7.0 innings, faced 24 batters, and only gave up one hit and one run (which was earned) along the way. Along with that, she struck out six batters in the process of getting the win.
That’s not bad for Alabama, but it is definitely something that Texas Tech has to pay attention to. If the Red Raiders can find a way to get past the UCLA Bruins, they’ll find the Crimson Tide awaiting them. Which is going to be a challenge.
Especially if Briski is pitching like that.
For Nebraska, the Huskers get to face off against the Longhorns in an elimination game. Nebraska, like Texas Tech, is being forced to regroup and bounce back in a hurry.
And that’ll be something that Texas Tech fans will likely want to pay attention to as well. Given Nebraska’s Big 12 history and the way that both the Huskers and Red Raiders dislike the Longhorns, that Sunday afternoon matchup between Texas and Nebraska will be fun to watch.
