Well, if you wanted another example of the subtle disparities in how various different recruiting services operate and how they rank teams, you can see it in how differently the folks over at 247Sports and On3 are ranking the 2027 Texas Tech Red Raiders recruiting class.

Right now, according to On3, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team are sitting at No. 2 in the country in the 2027 recruiting class rankings. But if you ask 247Sports as to where the Red Raiders are ranked nationally, they’re sitting at No. 12 following SaRod Baker’s commitment to Texas Tech.

And I should note, having the No. 12 ranked recruiting class nationally is still really impressive. Especially with how early everything is in this recruiting cycle and how much things might change over the coming months.

But, it’s interesting to see that big of a difference between the two recruiting services and how they evaluate everything.

Texas Tech’s 2027 recruiting class sits in the top 12 nationally after SaRod Baker’s commitment according to 247Sports’ rankings

Here’s what the list of the top 15 teams looks like according to 247Sports and their rankings:

  • No. 1: Oklahoma Sooners - 20 commits
  • No. 2: Texas A&M Aggies - 13 commits
  • No. 3: USC Trojans - 11 commits
  • No. 4: Ohio State Buckeyes - 11 commits
  • No. 5: Oregon Ducks - 11 commits
  • No. 6: Kentucky Wildcats - 13 commits
  • No. 7: Louisville Cardinals - 13 commits
  • No. 8: Washington Huskies - 12 commits
  • No. 9: Penn State Nittany Lions - 12 commits
  • No. 10: Florida Gators - 10 commits
  • No. 11: Notre Dame Fighting Irish - 10 commits
  • No. 12: Texas Tech Red Raiders - 8 commits
  • No. 13: Wisconsin Badgers - 10 commits
  • No. 14: Texas Longhorns - 9 commits
  • No. 15: Miami Hurricanes - 8 commits

While this grouping doesn’t have Texas Tech as close to the top, that’s still a good group to be lumped in with. The Red Raiders are (generally speaking) in a pretty good area here. They’re right behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and ahead of the Longhorns and Miami Hurricanes.

And there’s still plenty of time for this to change and for the Red Raiders to have a shot at moving up even further.
