The final Texas Tech men’s basketball game of the 2025 calendar year ended with absolute ease as the Red Raiders didn't struggle at all when taking on the Winthrop Eagles. A clear, smooth, easy 30-point win over Winthrop after Christmas and before the New Year gets started is the perfect sort of way to celebrate the holidays and get some rest.

Well, that’s my opinion, at least.

Texas Tech’s win was routine and straightforward and exactly what the Red Raiders needed before Big 12 play gets started in January. And it even had a few intriguing stats that are worth taking a look at.

Texas Tech only had two bench points in the second half of a blowout, which I don’t think is ideal but I can live with it in a 30-point win

Look, I don’t think it’s great that the Texas Tech Red Raiders rely so heavily upon their starters in any given game this season. And I really don’t love that the Red Raiders are only getting a grand total of TWO bench points in the second half of a 30-point win over a team like the Winthrop Eagles.

I can live with it. I don’t think it’s the end of the world, but I’d really love it if Texas Tech was able to get its starters a bit more of a breather in a game like this. I mean, this game was way out of hand by halftime, it was 59-21 in Texas Tech’s favor. And still, just two points from the bench in the second half. That’s not my favorite thing.

Texas Tech’s perimeter defense was insane in the first half and Winthrop couldn’t really do anything from three point range

Folks, I think it’s a really good thing that the Eagles weren’t able to find any sort of real success from behind the three point line in the first half against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were really solid when it came to perimeter defense and managed to limit Winthrop to just 1-of-14 three point shooting in the first half.

Just 7 percent shooting from deep! That’s probably not a stat that the Eagles are in love with, but it’s a stat that I’m a fan of. I, for one, think Texas Tech should hold everybody to just 7 percent shooting from three point range in the first half (and ideally the second half) of every game.

There were a grand total of three dunks in this game

Look, this is super inconsequential and I’m not worried about this at all, but there were only three dunks in this game. Two for the Red Raiders and one for the Eagles. And that is somehow a good bit lower than what I really expected?

And I’ve never really paid much attention to how often a team dunks in a game, but now I’m wondering what the average number of slam dunks per Texas Tech men’s basketball game happens to be. Because that does feel a little low? Maybe I’m just off base here?
