Tuesday evening, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will get to face off against a team they’ve already beaten 24-0 earlier this season as they take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats. Texas Tech, fresh off of a sweep against the Iowa State Cyclones, are in position to keep rolling right along.
But Texas Tech does have to hit the road for this matchup. It’s in Abilene.
As the Red Raiders get set to face the ACU Wildcats, I happen to have a few questions that I’d like to see answered. Let’s take a look at a few things I’d like answers for.
No. 1: Will Gerry Glasco tweak the lineup for a midweek matchup with an overmatched opponent?
Tuesday’s quick trip on over to Abilene gives the head coach of the REd Raiders the opportunity to experiment a bit while also giving some of Texas Tech’s key contributors some well deserved rest. With the way the Red Raiders have been thriving throughout the season, giving some of the younger players some key reps would be huge for Texas Tech’s future.
No. 2: How lopsided will this game get? There’s no way this game doesn’t end early in a run-rule, right?
So far this season, the Red Raiders have managed to run rule 23 opponents this season. Texas Tech just swept the Iowa State Cyclones and did so with three run-rule games. The Red Raiders are dominant this season and when you factor in how the Wildcats have a 9.09 team ERA, there’s a very good chance that this game gets ugly and ends in five innings.
No. 3: What will this week look like for Texas Tech? Will this trip to Abilene help build more momentum ahead of facing BYU?
The NCAA softball schedule is jam packed full of games and college softball teams often deal with short turnaround times before facing off against an opponent. Texas Tech had just one game off after sweeping Iowa State before getting lined up to meet with the ACU Wildcats. After this, the Red Raiders will have one day off before facing the BYU Cougars.
I don’t anticipate any issues for the Red Raiders, but I do wonder if that quick turnaround time gets to be a bit much at times.
