The Texas Tech Red Raiders are rolling. After winning nine in a row, crushing opponents left and right, and surging to be among the best in the country, Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech softball team are about to head over to Abilene to meet up with the ACU Wildcats.
This is something of a rematch from a game back in February, but given that Texas Tech has 30 more wins than the Wildcats do and the Red Raiders beat ACU 24-0 a few weeks back, expect this game to get out of hand in a hurry. This one should be wrapped up sooner rather than later and we’ll get Texas Tech back home.
Probably after about five innings or so.Â
Here’s a few storylines to keep an eye on as the Texas Tech Red Raiders face off against the ACU Wildcats this evening.
No.1: Mihyia Davis and her ability to just scoot down the basepaths without any real issue for the Texas Tech Red Raiders
So far this season, Texas Tech is thriving when it comes to stealing bases and there’s no Red Raiders that’s better at it than Mihyia Davis, who has managed to steal 27 bases on 31 attempts so far this season. The next closest Red Raider is Mia Williams, who has just 15 stolen bases up to this point. If Davis gets the chance to steal a base, expect her to take full advantage in this game.
No. 2: Texas Tech just keeps hammering home runs seemingly at ease and we should expect more of that tonight vs. ACU
Speaking of Mia Williams for a moment, she’s not just the second best at stealing bases for the Red Raiders this season, she’s also the best at power hitting and has managed to hit 13 home runs on the season. As a whole, Texas Tech has hit 75 home runs, which is just absurd given that we’re not even into April yet. ACU’s team ERA is over nine, so expect to see a few home runs tonight.
No. 3: The Red Raiders will have a chance to keep momentum rolling before facing the BYU Cougars back in Lubbock on Thursday
Between stolen bases and home runs, the Red Raiders have the chance to keep the momentum rolling before they face the BYU Cougars. There will be a brief bit of rest prior to the series in Lubbock, but even if there wasn’t, Texas Tech shouldn’t have too much of an issue with the Cougars this weekend. BYU is struggling and is sitting at 11-22 overall right now.
With this midweek matchup in Abilene and then BYU coming to town in a couple days, Glasco’s Red Raiders should be stacking up wins left and right this week.
