The regular season is about to wrap up! It’s almost done! The No. 20 Texas Tech Lady Raiders are set to head into the Big 12 tournament right after they match up with the Arizona State Sun Devils. And there’s a lot to be said about this game, but there are specifically a few things I’d like to keep an eye on.
Here’s some storylines I’d like to watch out for as the No. 20 Lady Raiders get set to face off against the Sun Devils in the final home game of the regular season (and also Senior Day for so many on this Texas Tech women’s basketball roster).
Storyline 1: Nine seniors will be honored for the commitment they’ve made to play for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders
Folks, if it feels like that’s a lot of players, that’s because it is. There are NINE seniors on this team that will be honored at senior day. Bailey Maupin, Sarengbe Sanogo, Gemma Nunez, Denae Fritz, Snudda Collins, Adlee Blacklock, Sidney Love, and Jada Malone.
NINE Lady Raiders. That’s a lot. And there’s a ton of progress that this group has made in the way they’ve helped elevate the Texas Tech women’s basketball program in meaningful ways. That has to be acknowledged before we go any further.
Storyline 2: I, for one, would like to see Texas Tech continue to thrive at blocking folks
It’s great to see a team that thrives at blocking folks the way that Texas Tech does. I think that’ll be fun to watch as Arizona State tries to handle that. The Lady Raiders are among the best when it comes to blocks as they’re blocking folks at a rate of 5.8 blocks per game.
Storyline 3: Big 12 women’s basketball tournament seeding could be impacted here
With the way the Big 12 standings look right now and the way that Texas Tech is in a tie for fourth in the conference with the likes of Oklahoma State and Colorado, I, for one, would like to see the Lady Raiders just go out and win and move into the Big 12 tournament with a solid spot. Sure, the Cowgirls and the Buffaloes could lose. But a win here just makes it that much easier.
