The head coach of the Texas Tech softball team sure seems grateful that the Red Raiders are competing for a national championship yet again. And as Gerry Glasco and Texas Tech compete against the Texas Longhorns in the Women’s College World Series finals, he’s seeing a ton of great things happening around Lubbock these days.

In just his second season in West Texas, Glasco has gotten the Red Raiders back to Oklahoma City for just the second time in program history. Of course, it’s worth remembering that he got Texas Tech to the Women’s College World Series for the first time in program history last season.

Glasco’s tenure as the head coach of the Texas Tech softball team has been defined by a very rapid and impressive building project. And while there’s a lot of great things to be said about all that the Red Raiders are accomplishing on the softball diamond, Glasco knows that there’s a lot of similarly impressive things happening across campus.

Following the Red Raiders’ win over the Alabama Crimson Tide that propelled Texas Tech to the 2026 WCWS Finals, Glasco made it clear that Texas Tech thrives in a number of sports, not just softball.

“It’s just a reflection of the greatness I’ve experienced at Texas Tech University,” Glasco said of his team’s second trip to Oklahoma City. “It’s a great university, everything’s fun. Our football team is fun, our basketball team is fun, our women’s basketball team is fun. Everything I’ve gotten to do around that campus, the tailgating, it’s just a great environment.”

That’s pretty high praise of the momentum that Texas Tech has happening in its athletics department. And he’s not wrong. The Red Raiders are really ascending in a number of sports right now. There’s a culture of success that’s being built within nearly every area of the Texas Tech athletics department and that’s something to celebrate and recognize.

But Glasco knows that the success that his team is experiencing wouldn’t be possible without everyone who supports the program and all of the folks working behind the scenes. For that, he is also grateful.

“Everybody in our program, from the janitors to the field crew to the administration to the game-day facilities people, gives us full support,” Glasco said. “It’s just been a privilege and that allows you to concentrate on your team and have them ready for moments like these.”
