Texas Tech will be learning from its loss to Tennessee during next season as well

Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders weren’t able to get a win in the Women’s College World Series on Day 3, unfortunately. The Texas Tech softball team ran into the challenge that was the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and found itself unable to get around it.

Which is frustrating.

In a low scoring game, Texas Tech ended up coming up short and losing 2-1. Now, the Red Raiders are looking at possibly having to pack their bags and head home to Lubbock unless they can bounce back in a hurry and beat their next opponent.

After the loss, Texas Tech’s head coach explained the message that he gave to the Red Raiders following their loss to the Lady Volunteers. And it’s a pretty interesting one.

“We went in the locker room and talked about value and how important every opportunity in a game like that is because I feel like we didn’t value the lead off opportunity,” Glasco said during his postgame press conference.

And in a game like this, against a team like that, with the stakes that are present at this time of the year, you can’t afford to not value those sorts of things.

Gerry Glasco explained that the Texas Tech softball team will be using the loss to Tennessee to help learn next year as well

“We had situations that we ignored signals, we didn’t value every aspect of the game that you have to value in a one-to-one nine inning game against a great team like that,” Glasco said.

And as a result of that, Texas Tech very clearly needs to get a few things figured out after the Red Raiders’ loss to Tennessee. Glasco noted that there’s room to grow and learn here.

“I think we can learn from it as a ball club. We definitely, there’s a lot to learn from that game,” Glasco continued. “That’s a game that we’ll be using next season to learn from.”

Now, here’s to hoping that Texas Tech has a few more games that take place between today and the start of next season. The Red Raiders aren’t done just yet, but they’re going to need to drastically improve and in a hurry. Texas Tech can’t lose to the UCLA Bruins and then the Red Raiders need to get back-to-back wins over Alabama.

That’s a lot. So hopefully Texas Tech is doing some very real learning here in a hurry. Let’s hope those improvements are overnight improvements and the Red Raiders can get some meaningful wins here in the coming days.
